Chicago Red Stars Shutout Racing Louisville 1-0

The Chicago Red Stars kept their playoff hopes alive behind a 1-0 win against Racing Louisville FC at SeatGeek Stadium in Chicago tonight. Midfielder Bianca St-Georges, fresh off of stint with the Canadian Women’s National Team, provided the game’s only goal to secure three points for the home side.

KEY MOMENTS:

3’ Chicago’s Bianca St-Georges makes a run up the right flank, outrunning all but one Louisville defender before taking a shot that deflects off Louisville’s keeper

13’ Louisville sends in a long shot that deflects off the crossbar before being contained by Alyssa Naeher

20’ Pressing high up the field, Casey Krueger delivers a ball to Bianchi, who sends in a powerful shot from outside the box that flies over the goal

23’ Louisville sends in a shot from deep in the box that is batted away by Naeher

27’ Chicago’s Hocking wins the ball in the attacking third and fights off another Louisville defender before rocketing off a shot that is grabbed out of the air by Louisville’s goalie

30’ A Red Stars run into the box is cut short, but Julia Bianchi received the ball in midfield and sent in another shot from distance that sails over the crossbar

33’ Bianchi wins the ball at midfield and sends a pass up to St-Georges, who outruns Louisville and arcs the ball up and over the keeper and into the back of the net, 1-0 Chicago

50’ St-Georges wins the ball just outside Louisville’s box and taps it to Hocking, who takes a shot that lands in the hands of Louisville’s goalie

70’ St-Georges puts a pass through to Hocking, who beats two Louisville defenders to take a shot that’s smacked away by Louisville’s keeper

90+8’ Louisville’s Kgatlana draws out Naeher and sneaks past the keeper to get off a shot, but Casey Krueger slides in at the last second to keep the ball out of the net

GAME NOTES:

  • 41 minutes into the first half, Chicago had already attempted 10 shots, outdoing the club’s season average of 9.3 shots per match before halftime.
  • With the Red Stars shutting out Racing Louisville in tonight’s match, the last five competitions between Chicago and Louisville have ended with the winner shutting out their opponent (1-0 CHI, 2-0 LOU, 0-2 LOU, 3-0 LOU, 4-0 CHI). Additionally, tonight’s win marks the first time Chicago have scored a goal against Louisville in all competitions since Chicago’s 4-0 shutout of Louisville on August 26, 2022.
  • With her start tonight, defender Arin Wright recorded her 150th regular-season appearance and her 141st regular-season start. • Tatumn Milazzo was celebrated after the final whistle for eclipsing 50 regular-season appearances. Milazzo reached 50 regular-season appearances in Chicago’s 2-0 shutout of the Washington Spirit at Audi Field September 3.
