Red Stars Tie Against Angel City 2-2 in Front of Record Crowd

After staging a massive second half comeback, the Chicago Red Stars split points with Angel City FC in a 2-2 draw. The World Cup Welcome Back match saw the second largest crowd in club history, with 8,961 in attendance.

KEY MOMENTS:

3’ Tierna Davidson connects with Ella Stevens, who makes a run up the left flank before crossing to Yuki Nagasato. Nagasato lures out LA keeper DiDi Hiračić and rockets a shot through the keeper’s legs that ultimately goes wide.

16’ Davidson sees another opportunity on the Chicago press and serves up a pass to Casey Krueger. Krueger crosses to St-Georges in the box, whose shot deflects for another chance by Nagasato, but Angel City sends the ball out.

21’ Penelope Hocking receives a pass in the attacking third and sends it to St-Georges in the wing. St-Georges crosses to Stevens, who gets a header off, but the shot is just barely saved by Hiračić’s glove.

39’ Angel City earns a corner kick about 12 yards outside the box, which is sent in and bounces around before finding the back of the net after Alyssa Naeher is unable to recover from a previous save, 0-1 Angel City

45+3’ Another free kick for Angel City is given near the same spot as the previous lead up to LA’s goal. A shot is again sent in from the box, but Naeher plucks it out of the air to shut down Angel City.

46’ A quick start from Angel City ends in a close shot that is batted away by a diving Naeher to keep the score 0-1 for LA.

68’ After receiving a pass up the middle, Cheyna Matthews rockets off a shot which is saved before deflecting back to Ava Cook, who launches a laser that Angel City can’t stop to even the score, 1-1

71’ A cross into Chicago’s 18-yard box by Angel City’s forward finds another attacker who finishes the shot attempt to give LA the lead again, 1-2

75’ Ally Schlegel wins a battle and serves up a pass to Cheyna Matthews, who beats her defender and nestles the ball in the lower left corner of the net before Hiračić can get a glove on it, 2-2

81’ Angel City takes another crack at goal from outside the box, but a diving Alyssa Naeher bats the ball away to clear the danger

90+4’ A throw in brings Angel City into the right side of the box and a cross allows LA to get a shot off from the center, but Alyssa Naeher steps up to the challenge with one last save to end the match

GAME NOTES:
