Local 134 invited the Red Stars front office to join them this past weekend on a local Chicago tour with Shermann Dilla Thomas in celebration of Black History Month. Dilla, most popularly known as @6figga_dilla for his Chicago history content on social media, runs a Chicago tour company called Mahogany Tours that focuses on highlighting Chicago’s people, architecture, and impact on the world outside of the traditional downtown tourist spots.
This tour with Local 134 traversed the North Lawndale neighborhood. Dilla spoke about the historically Jewish population of the area, the multi-building headquarters of Sears, Roebuck & Co. that started in Lawndale, and the first Fieldhouse in the US which was built in Douglass Park and is still around today. The group also had a chance to get off of the bus and stand on the block where Martin Luther King Jr. lived when he spent 11 months in Chicago fighting housing discrimination in 1966.
Huge thanks to Local 134 for inviting the front office on this amazing tour where Dilla taught everyone about how everything dope about America comes from Chicago!
