CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars take on Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field in New Jersey for a mid-week matchup. Here is the Starting XI, presented by Magellan.
- Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher is starting in her seventh match this season. The number one goalkeeper has earned three clean sheets in 2019 and managed a 75% save rate.
- Arin Wright earned her 100th appearance in the NWSL and the Chicago Red Stars in the last match for Chicago. The versatile Wright has made starts on the backline and on the attack this season.
- Sarah Gorden will make her 16th start this season for Chicago. She’s managed to earn a staggering 82% tackle success rate in 2019, along with 41 clearances and 22 interceptions.
- Katie Naughton has played in every game in 2019 for Chicago and will be earning her 17th consecutive start. The center back has been a leader on the backline and has been successful out of the back with a passing accuracy of 79% in the Red Stars own half.
- Defender Casey Short has put together one of the best seasons ever for an NWSL defender in 2019. With a goal and two assists the defender has been getting forward and a threat to the opposing teams’ backline.
- Julie Ertz will captain the squad once again. The midfielder has been a major threat in the middle of the pitch winning 87.5% of her tackles and then adding into the attack with a 68% pass success rate.
- Morgan Brian returns to the starting lineup and will be earning her 50th career NWSL appearance. Her vision has been key this season for Chicago as she has managed an 80% success rate which has her in the top-three in the league.
- Midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo has been put in the ten role for a few weeks now and since then the club’s attack has improved. A leader on the field, DiBernardo has provided 24 key passes on the attack for Chicago, along with finishing two goals for herself.
- Yuki Nagasato has been pure fire in 2019 as the Japanese international has scored five goals and added four assists.
- Katie Johnson will face her former club as the forward earns her ninth start of 2019. The forward has clicked with Kerr as both her assists have come on a Kerr goal.
- Sam Kerr has 12 goals in just 13 games this season she is averaging a goal every 96.9 minutes she plays. On top of that, Kerr works off the ball as she has 100% tackle success rate.
- Available off the bench for Chicago are Nikki Stanton, Savannah McCaskill, Maria Sanchez, Mackenzie Arnold, Brooke Elby, Danielle Colaprico, and Tierna Davidson.
