W-League Recap – Round 1

CHICAGO – With Round 1 of Australia’s W-League in the books, three Red Stars made their 2018-19 season debut.

In the first match of the season, Danielle Colaprico and Sydney FC took on the Western Sydney Wanderers, shutting the latter out 3-0. Colaprico started in the midfield, being subbed out in the 83rd minute.

The win pushed Sydney FC up to first place in the standings.

Next up, Perth Glory battled to a 1-1 draw with former league champions, Brisbane Roar.

After a scoreless first half, midfielder Alyssa Mautz earned the first goal of the match in the 54th minute to put Perth on top. Mautz was part of a breakaway and scored the tap in to give Perth the lead.

But two minutes before the final whistle, Brisbane equalized. Defender Katie Naughton helped maintain just one conceded goal in the backline.

The draw brought Perth to a tie for third in the standings with Brisbane.

Next week, Colaprico and Sydney FC will face Melbourne City, as Mautz, Naughton, Nikki Stanton, and Sam Kerr along with and Perth will take on Canberra United for Round 2 action.
