Two Games, Two Goals for Jen Hoy

Red Stars continue to go the distance

CHICAGO – As Perth Glory relaxed with a bye week, six Red Stars took the field this past weekend, and Jen Hoy earned her second goal of the season in back-to-back weeks.

In the first matchup of the weekend in the W-League, Canberra United came out on top over Newcastle Jets, 5-2. After going down 2-0 in the first half, Arin Gilliland started off the second half with a shot going just wide of the goal. With just minutes remaining, Jen Hoy buried a shot from close range and now has two goals for the Jets in the past two matches.

Samantha Johnson and the Melbourne Victory blackline were able to hold a shutout heading into the second half against Melbourne City FC. Victory would not be able to hold the draw and fell 3-0 to Melbourne City.

In the last matchup of the weekend, Sydney FC defeated Adelaide United, 2-0. Adelaide would create multiple scoring opportunities, including a Danielle Colaprico set piece going straight to the head of Katie Naughton, but the ball went just wide. Sofia Huerta created multiple scoring chances, but it was not enough to find the back of the net.

Round 5:
Adelaide United (0-2-1) vs. Canberra United (2-1-0)
Newcastle Jets (2-2-0) vs. Sydney FC (3-1-0)
Melbourne Victory (0-3-1) vs. Perth Glory (1-1-1)
