Three Red Stars Score in Round 7 Action

Hoy, Huerta and DiBernardo net one for their clubs

CHICAGO – It was a battle of the Red Stars in two matches during Round 7 of the W-League.

In the first teammate match up, Arin Gilliland, Jen Hoy and the Newcastle Jets fought to a 1-1 draw against Sam Johnson and the Melbourne Victory. For just the second time this season, the Victory took the lead in the 18th minute of the match, holding on to the one goal lead for most of the game. However, it was Hoy who saved the Jets and scored her fourth goal in as many matches, equalizing the match in the final minutes.

Vanessa DiBernardo, Alyssa Mautz and Perth Glory found themselves tied at the top of the leaderboard after defeating Danielle Colaprico, Sofia Huerta, Katie Naughton and Adelaide United, 4-1. Getting off to a comfortable lead in the second half, the Glory went up 2-0 before Adelaide put the pressure on. After giving Glory goalkeeper a run for her money with each shot taken, Huerta finally found the back of the net in the 65th minute to put Adelaide within one. Just moments later, Glory would once again increase their lead to two goals, and in the 82nd minute, DiBernardo would put the match to rest with a converted penalty kick.
