Reserves take 2-1 win against FC Pride
CHICAGO — The Red Stars Reserves began the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) season with a 2-1 win against FC Pride on the road on Friday, May 31.
Forward Haley Johnson set up teammate Callie O’Connor for the opening goal in the 51st minute before the Pride tied the game up in the 70th minute. The Reserves continued to push for the game winner and were rewarded in the 86th minute. Forward Lexi Pelafas scored a clutch goal to give Chicago their first win of the season. Defender Amanda Kowalski assisted Pelafas’ goal.
Pelafas played college soccer at Central Michigan University and completed her college career as the program’s all-time leader in goals and points. This is Pelafas third season playing for the Reserves.
The Reserves were scheduled to continue their road trip and take on Indy Saints FC on Sunday, June 2. However, the game was postponed. A make-up date will be announced by the WPSL in the future.
The Reserves next game will be on Wednesday for their home opener in a rematch against FC Pride. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 PM C.T. at Oak Brook Polo Fields.
