The Facts: Chicago vs. Houston

MATCH INFO: Chicago Red Stars vs. Houston Dash on Saturday, September 23, at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium; Houston, Texas. Watch live on the go90 app or NWSLsoccer.com.

SERIES HISTORY: The match between Chicago and Houston will mark the third time this season the two clubs have faced off. Both matches in the beginning of the season saw a 2-0 score, with the home team taking the win, awarding three points to each team. Rachel Daly and Kaelia Ohai scored for Houston in the season opener, while Chicago earned two off a goal from Julie Ertz and an own goal off a set piece from Danielle Colaprico.

SCOUTING HOUSTON: The Dash are currently out of postseason contention after earning four losses in the last five matches. In the beginning of the season, the Dash lost captain and offensive powerhouse Kaelia Ohai with an ACL tear. In her absence, Poliana has led the offensive attack for Houston, earning four goals and two assists. Meanwhile, rookie goalkeeper Jane Campbell has been strong in goal since earning the starting nod. In 13 matches, Campbell has allowed 16 goals, but recorded 52 saves. Overall, Houston is in a no-win situation as Chicago heads to BBVA Compass Stadium looking for a win to clinch a playoff spot.

RED STARS MILESTONES: With her 10th goal of the season, Christen Press now has 35 goals in her time playing for the Chicago Red Stars. Yuki Nagasato now has two assists since joining Chicago in July 2017. Both assists have led to a Julie Ertz goal.

LEADING THE NWSL: Red Stars midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo is tied for the lead in assists (17) for all active players in NWSL. In 2015 and 2016 DiBernardo finished second overall in the NWSL in assists.

USWNT CALL-UP: Sofia Huerta earned her first call from the U.S. Women’s National Team and earned her first cap and assist on September 15, when the U.S. took on New Zealand. Huerta, 24, had been called in to the previous camp, but did not dress for the games due to the U.S. WNT trying to gain the rights from Mexico, in which Huerta played five games for.

YOUNG & EXPERIENCED SQUAD: The Red Stars have one of the youngest rosters in the league, with a combined average age of 24.45, with seven players 23 years old or younger. However, a majority of the team has been together for three seasons, making it one of the most cohesive teams in the league.

LOOKING AHEAD: The Red Stars currently sit in third place in the NWSL league standings with 36 points. Three teams still fight for the final two playoff spots.

NEXT MATCH: Red Stars will head to Portland to take on the Thorns next Saturday, September 30. The matchup could be a glimpse into the future, as Portland clinched a home playoff match and is waiting to see who they host. Chicago has had little success against Portland, earning just one win.
