CHICAGO – In the last matchup during the regular season, the Chicago Red Stars take on Utah Royals FC on Saturday, September 8. The match will be broadcast live at 2:30 p.m. CT on the NWSL app and NWSLsoccer.com.
Here’s a few things to look for:
Falling Short
With Chicago’s victory on Tuesday, Utah Royals FC were eliminated from their first-ever NWSL Semifinals by placing just outside of the Playoffs in fifth place with 32 points. For head coach Laura Harvey, this is the third-straight fifth-place finish for her team; being with Seattle Reign FC in 2016 and 2017.
Winning August Series
In August, Utah had a winning month posting a 3-1-1 record. The loss came in the third match, during a 1-0 loss against Seattle. Utah’s draw came against Sky Blue, nearly handing New Jersey its only win of the season. It was the second-half stoppage time goal by Utah’s Amy Rodriguez that sealed the equalizer to destroy Sky Blue’s hope of three points.
Trading Places
Saturday’s match will be the return of Chicago’s Brooke Elby playing at her former home stadium after the June 18th trade with Utah. Former Chicago defender Sam Johnson and forward Christen Press will also play against Chicago for the first time since joining Utah Royals.
