CHICAGO – Coming off a Bye Week, the Red Stars will host Sky Blue FC for the final time at Toyota Park on Saturday, July 28. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the NWSL app and the go90 app.
Here are a few things to watch out for against Sky Blue FC:
By One Point
Despite failing to find its first victory this year, Sky Blue FC has been close to winning several times this season. Of the 13 losses, nine of the defeats were decided by just one goal. Even without getting a result, Sky Blue were able to equalize at some point in three of those losses. Amid the nine tight games, New Jersey either tallied more shots or more shots on goal over their opponent in four of those matches.
Sky Blue Sticks Together
With the 2018 Tournament of Nations coming up, Sky Blue FC managed to lose just one of their starters for the next match. U.S. Women’s National Team captain Carli Lloyd was named to the final roster for USA. Despite losing Lloyd, Sky Blue will mostly remain intact this weekend against Chicago, as the Red Stars lose five starters to the U.S. and Australia national teams for the tournament.
Late-Season Waivers
Although majority of the team will be present, Sky Blue decided to waive two players Wednesday morning. Brazilian international Thaisa and rookie Michaela Abam were waived in order for both players to pursue opportunities abroad. Thaisa started five of her eight appearances for New Jersey, while Abam played four matches in her rookie campaign.
