CHICAGO — The records keep coming for Sam Kerr. For the sixth time this season, the Chicago striker has been awarded NWSL Player of the Week following her performance on Saturday.
Kerr was directly involved in all three of Chicago’s goals during the team’s 3-1 win over Washington last weekend to clinch a fifth consecutive playoff berth for the Red Stars. Nine minutes into the game, she put Chicago ahead with a fantastic chip over the goalkeeper to rainbow the ball into the back of the net.

Later in the first half, Kerr played the provider. She managed to make a great run at the goal and draw the goalkeeper away from the goal. Instead of taking the shot, she passed the ball to a wide-open Yuki Nagasato for the assist. It was Kerr’s 24th career assist, putting her at the top of the all-time NWSL rankings.
She wasn’t done there, however. Kerr sealed the victory in the second half with her second goal of the game. It was her 18th of the season, setting a new record for the most goals scored in an NWSL regular season.
This is another historic award for Kerr. She becomes the first player in league history to win Player of the Week on six occasions in one season. She also has the most Player of the Week honors in league history, this week marking her 13th award.
Kerr and the Red Stars conclude the regular season this Saturday, September 28 against the Utah Royals. Kickoff from SeatGeek Stadium is scheduled for 7pm CT.
