Chicago forward wins the award for a second consecutive week
CHICAGO — Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr was voted National Women’s Soccer League’s Player of the Week for Week 6 of the 2019 season by the NWSL Media Association. She becomes the first player since 2016 to win the award in consecutive weeks.
The Aussie scored two goals in a five-minute span in Chicago’s victory over the Houston Dash on Sunday. Her opening goal came in the 8th minute when she split the defense with a wonderful run and maneuvered past the goalkeeper for the opening goal of the match. Within minutes, Kerr would double her team’s lead after a great give-and-go play between her and Vanessa DiBernardo. Kerr would beat the Houston defender to the ball, leaving her with a breakaway on goal and scored the game-winner.

Kerr has six goals in as many games to start the season, putting the reigning Golden Boot winner at the top of the scoring chart this season.
With her ninth Player of the Week honor, Kerr has won the award more than any other player in the league’s history. Chicago is the only NWSL franchise to have two players win the award in consecutive weeks (Sofia Huerta – 2015: Weeks 5-6).
Chicago will return home to take on the Washington Spirit on Sunday, May 26th at SeatGeek Stadium.
