Marks the second year the Australian forward is nominated
CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars forward and Australian international is among the shortlisted nominees for the 2018 Best FIFA Women’s Player Award.
Being nominated in back-to-back years, Kerr has continued her road to success in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). The Chicago forward owns several NWSL records, including most goals in a season (17), most hat tricks (3) and most career goals (52), becoming the first player to pass the 50-goal milestone.
The Aussie leads her club and the league with nine goals this season, including a hat trick, despite missing the first month of the season due to international duty.
Recently, Kerr won her first ESPY Award for Best International Women’s Soccer Player.
The list also includes two additional NWSL players: Marta (Orlando Pride) and Megan Rapinoe (Seattle Reign FC). Six nominees are players from French league Olympique Lyonnais: Lucy Bronze, Ada Hegerberg, Amandine Henry, Saki Kumagai, Dzsenifer Marozsán, Wendie Renard; while Pernille Harder (VfL Wolfsburg) is the sole nominee playing in Germany.
Winners will be based on a four-part voting process:
Fan voting ends August 10, and FIFA will announce the final three nominees in early September.
