Chicago, IL –The Chicago Red Stars are hitting the road again for their 5th away match in 6 games to take on #1 ranked, and undefeated, Seattle Reign FC Saturday night at 7 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. CT at Moda Pitch Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Washington.
The Red Stars (6-3-1, 19pts) are coming off of a disappointing 1-0 loss at home on Wednesday to the Washington Spirit. The Spirit had previously beaten the Red Stars 1-0 at Benedictine University on April 26, giving their Red Stars two out of their three defeats on the year. Chicago still sits in the #2 overall league spot, tied with the Spirit with 19 points each. Chicago has a game in hand over Washington, while the Spirit would rank higher due to head-to-head record.
Seattle Reign FC (8-0-2, 26pts) began the NWSL season in dominant fashion but has tied 2 of their last 3 matches. The Reign are holding tight on a seven-point lead in the NWSL standings heading into the match Saturday.
New Zealand international defender Abby Erceg made her first appearance for the Red Stars on Wednesday, covering a full 90 minutes in a solid debut performance. The Red Stars also have two other new faces on board in Australian midfielder Emily Van Egmond, who competed for part of the 2013 NWSL season with the Reign, and US Women’s National Team allocated forward Christen Press, who just recently joined the team in Chicago.
This game will mark the first of three meetings with the Reign for the year and the first of two visits Chicago will make to Seattle. This match-up also sees a reversal of fortunes for the two squads this season as Chicago ended 2013 in 6th place, with Seattle right behind them in 7th.
Red Stars vs. Seattle Reign FC kicks off Saturday at 7:00 p.m. PT at Moda Pitch Memorial Stadium in Seattle, Washington and will be streamed live for free. Fans can also receive live in-game updates straight from the stadium via the Red Stars official game day Twitter: @redstarslive
