Red Stars Home Vs. Sky Blue FC at 1pm Today

Chicago, IL – The Red Stars return home today to face Sky Blue FC for the final showdown between the two teams in the NWSL regular season.

The Red Stars (6-4-2, 19pts) look to turn the tide after a tough 3-1 loss last Saturday to the undefeated Seattle Reign FC. Red Stars Australian midfielder Emily Van Egmond opened the scoring in the second half of play, but the Reign followed with 3 unanswered tallies to close the game. Two of the goals were the result of penalty kicks made by Seattle midfielder Kim Little. Sydney Leroux scored on a long-range blast between Little’s goals.

Sky Blue FC (2-6-4, 10pts) is looking to bounce back against the Red Stars after being shut out by the Houston Dash on June 8. SBFC is currently on a three-game losing streak, which began when the Red Stars beat Sky Blue 2-0 at Yurcak Field on May 28. The team sits eighth in the NWSL standings, ahead of the Boston Breakers by one point.

Six Red Stars players will not be available today due to call-ups to their respective Women’s National Team camps. Christen Press, Julie Johnston, and Shannon Boxx joined the U.S. team, where Press had an assist last night in the team’s 1-0 defeat of France. Karina LeBlanc and Adriana Leon will play for Canada in their upcoming friendly against Germany and Abby Erceg will captain the Football Ferns of New Zealand in their two upcoming friendlies against Brazil.

Midfielder Julianne Sitch received a two-game suspension from the NWSL Disciplinary Committee for an incident during the Seattle Reign match and will not be available today.

The Red Stars called up three amateur players for today’s game on account of the National Team call-ups, including Torri Allen, Jamie Forbes and Kelley McCloskey.

All fathers get in free for the Red Stars vs. Sky Blue FC Father’s Day game with the purchase of a regular admission ticket. Tickets are available at the box office.

Red Stars vs. Sky Blue FC kicks off Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CT at Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
