Red Stars Sign New Zealand Defender Abby Erceg

CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars announced today the signing of New Zealand international defender Abby Erceg, pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC), for the remainder of the 2014 National Women’s Soccer League season. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Abby will provide us with a higher level of professionalism and leadership, which she acquired during her time in Australia, Germany, Spain and as captain of the New Zealand national team,” Red Stars Head Coach Rory Dames said. “Both of these attributes will be invaluable to helping develop our young team.”

The 24-year-old Whangarei, New Zealand native currently plays for USV Jena in the German Bundesliga. She also has previous experience playing in the Australian and Spanish leagues.
