Colaprico makes United States Debut while Sam Kerr scores again for Australia
CHICAGO – Danielle Colaprico, Julie Ertz, Alyssa Naeher and Casey Short were called up to the United States Women’s National Team for the final two U.S. Women’s National Team games of 2018 in two international friendlies against Portugal and Scotland.
Danielle Colaprico earned her first cap for the US, entering as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 victory over Portugal on November 8th. Five days later Colaprico earned her second cap, entering the game in the 76th minute in another 1-0 win for the U.S. WNT, this time over Scotland.
Julie Ertz also took part in both friendlies. She entered the game against Portugal in the 82nd minute and started the friendly victory over Scotland.
Alyssa Naeher earned her 38th cap against Portugal and shutout the Portugal offense.
The win over Portugal was the USWNT’s 500th win in history and their victory over Scotland meant the USA finished 2018 unbeaten.
Sam Kerr and Australia also participated in a pair of friendlies, both against Chile. Despite the 3-2 loss in their first meeting on November 10, Kerr and Australia were able to bounce back with an emphatic 5-0 win, with Kerr scoring the opener in the 52nd minute.
Lastly, Rosie White and New Zealand begin their World Cup qualifying campaign against Tonga on November 19 in their opening game of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Women’s Nations Cup. Three days later they take on Cook Islands before finishing Group B play against Fiji on November 25. The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-final, with the championship winner advancing to the 2019 Women’s World Cup and 2020 Summer Olympics.
