Chicago Red Stars Reserves head to second straight WPSL Championship Weekend
Chicago, Ill. – The Chicago Red Stars Reserves squad will travel to Oklahoma City this weekend in hopes of clinching their first WPSL National Title. Standing in their way are hometown favorites Oklahoma City F.C., who they will face in the Semifinals on Saturday in a battle to the Finals. Head Coach Chris King is excited that his team has earned a berth to the finals for the second year in a row.
“The team is excited for this opportunity, “said King. “This is our second trip to the Final Four and we’re hoping things end a little differently this year, than they did last year. “
In the 2014 WPSL National Semifinal match, the Reserves lost 4-0 to Beach F.C. from Long Beach, Calif. in the closing stages of overtime after staying neck and neck in regular time. Prior to that game the Reserves were undefeated in their first season of play, boasting a record of 11-0-1, and are now almost in the exact same position as they were a year ago. Currently standing at 11-0-1, the Reserves hope to take their season one step further and get to the National Championship game. Fellow NWSL reserve squads from Boston Breakers and Washington Spirit are also set to feature in national semifinals.
The Semifinal matchup will be played Saturday July 25 at 2:30 p.m. at the University of Central Oklahoma soccer fields. If the Reserves win that match, they will play for the WPSL National Title at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday July 26.
