Chicago – The Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) returns to action at the end of May with the Red Stars Reserves taking part in ten regional matches in the Midwest Division.
The Red Stars Reserves are the official amateur team of the Chicago Red Stars professional side of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and is comprised of current and former collegiate soccer players. Returning presenting sponsor for the Red Stars Reserves season are Illinois Women’s Soccer League (IWSL) and Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA).
The Reserves in the 2018 season entered their fourth WPSL Regionals after starting off with an impressive 9-0-1 record, winning the first nine matches by two or more goals. Goalkeeper Mackenzie Wood was a true MVP as she marked down eight straight clean sheets, not allowing a goal until the eighth match against Chicago City SC. The team went on to win the Central Conference and advance to Nationals, where they fell to eventual champions, Pensacola FC.
Past Reserves players include current Red Stars in Sarah Gorden, Katie Naughton and Zoey Goralski, plus Orlando Pride midfielder Joanna Boyles, along with former professional players Mary Luba, Courtney Raetzman and Erin Yenney.
The Red Stars Reserves play all home games at the Oak Brook Polo Fields in Oak Brook, Illinois. All matches are free admission.
