CHICAGO, IL (May 7, 2013) – The Red Stars are heading into their second match-up of a three game stretch when the team visits Sky Blue FC Wednesday night for a 7pm ET kick-off, before returning to Chicago for a rematch against Portland Thorns FC on Sunday, May 12th 5pm CT.
The Red Stars are coming off a tough 4-1 loss in Boston Saturday night, that saw their record drop to 0-1-2 on the season. A bright spot of the match was overall #1 college draft pick, midfielder Zakiya Bywaters, finding the net for the first time in her pro career.
Sky Blue FC is entering the game with a week’s rest time, after having suffered a loss in WNY 2-1 last week. Sky Blue FC currently stands at 2-0-1, featuring a roster with USWNT defender Kelley O’Hara, an attack-minded forward in Australian Lisa DeVanna, and a creative playmaker in Canadian midfielder Sophie Schmidt.
“We know we can’t fix our past mistakes but we sure can improve on what has been,” said Red Stars forward Ella Masar. “So as we head into New Jersey we are rolling up our sleeves and are going to compete.”
The match kicks off at 7:00pm ET at Yurcak Field in Piscataway, New Jersey, and will be streamed from www.skybluefc.com. Fans can also follow the Red Stars twitter account for updates: @chicagoredstars.
Additional Notes:
The Red Stars continue to be without midfielder Shannon Boxx, who underwent a successful arthroscopic knee surgery on April 30th to repair a minor tear in her meniscus.
Taryn Hemmings, who missed Saturday’s match-up in Boston due to a quad injury, is expected to travel with the team Wednesday.
