Julie Johnston takes day off with groin injury in preparation for later stages
Group G: USA vs. France, 1-0
Chicago forward Christen Press entered for the second straight match for the U.S. Women’s National Team, helping the side earn a 1-0 victory over France. Defender Julie Johnston was pulled last minute due to a groin injury and replaced by Boston Breakers captain, Whitney Engen.
Hope Solo played lights out in net, earning her 102nd shutout in international play and 15th of 2016. The goalkeeper came up with huge saves throughout the match, ultimately guiding the USWNT to earn three more points. The Women’s National Team hopes to advance to the quarterfinals out of a strong Group G.
