Chicago (May 9, 2014) –The Chicago Red Stars return home on Sunday to face the Houston Dash at 5 p.m. CT at Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex.
The Red Stars (1-2-1, 4 pts) look to build off a 1-1 come-back tie on the road Wednesday against Sky Blue FC. Rookie forward Hayley Brock scored her first professional goal with a spectacular shot in the second half that leveled the score in New Jersey. The Houston Dash (1-3-0, 1 pt) currently sit just below the Red Stars in the NWSL league standings with one win in four games. Their most recent effort was a 0-4 loss to Kansas City in Houston last Saturday.
The Red Stars are led by midfield team captain Lori Chalupny, as well as Canadian veteran goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc, who will be returning to the team after an appearance with the Canadian Women’s National Team. Also returning are Canadian midfielder Adriana Leon and American defender Julie Johnston. Canada tied the U.S. Women’s National Team 1-1 last night in Winnipeg in a friendly match-up.
The Red Stars recently bolstered their roster with the addition of two international players, defender and New Zealand captain Abby Erceg, as well as midfielder and Australian co-captain Emily Van Egmond. Both players are currently on national team duty, but are expected to join the team later this month.
Houston Dash features the return of two former Red Stars players in Illinois-native Ella Masar and Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod. McLeod was traded to Houston in exchange for fellow Canadian, forward Melissa Tancredi on January 7, while Masar was selected by Houston in the Expansion Draft on January 10. The Dash will be missing defender Osinache Ohale after she received a red card in the Dash’s last game against FC Kansas City.
