Chicago, Il. – The Chicago Red Stars have acquired forward Adriana Leon from the Boston Breakers in exchange for defender Carmelina Moscato.
Leon appeared in six games, including one start, for the Breakers, registering 163 minutes. Her first start came June 1st in a 5-1 loss to Sky Blue FC on the road. It was a game in which she tallied her first and only goal of the season. Leon last appeared for the Breakers in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Seattle Reign FC. She came on in the 89th minute. She has recently featured in Canadian National Team call-ups.
“Adriana will add a different dimension into our attack with her pace and willingness to run at players 1 v 1,” stated Head Coach Rory Dames.
Moscato started four of the five games she appeared in for the Red Stars this season and has been a key piece to the Canadian Women’s National Team’s back line since joining the senior team in 2002 at the age of 17. She won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and was part of the Canadian team that won both the 2010 and 2011 Cyprus Cups.
The Red Stars look to have Leon available for their July 4th 1pm home match against WNY Flash, pending league clearance.
