CHICAGO – Head Coach Rory Dames has named Rade Tanaskovic (pronounced Rah-day Tah-NAS-KOV-itch) as the Red Stars Goalkeeper Coach ahead of the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.
“We could not be more excited to add Rade to our coaching staff, and we welcome him and his family to Chicago,” head coach Rory Dames said. “He has a considerable amount of experience at every level, so adding him to the staff was a no-brainer.”
Tanaskovic is coming from the University of Iowa where he was primarily in charge of the goalkeepers. Over two seasons, Tanaskovic coached the goalkeeping unit to 14 shutouts and 17 wins. In his first season, the Hawkeyes returned to the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in three years.
“The Chicago Red Stars is one of the best soccer organization in the land and I am very thankful for the opportunity to be part of it,” Tanaskovic said. “I have been been blessed to be able to work with some remarkable individuals throughout my career and that trend is going to continue here in Chicago by working with Coach Dames and rest of the staff. I truly look forward meeting all the players and starting preseason soon.”
Prior to coaching the Hawkeyes, Tanaskovic spent time coaching collegiately with Louisville, Columbus State and Emmanuel College. At Louisville, the team earned 15 wins in two seasons and his starting goalkeeper, Taylor Bucklin, earned All-ACC selection.
Before jumping to the collegiate ranks he coached for FC Red Star, formerly ŽFK LASK, a club in Serbia’s top-level league, the Prva ženska liga.
Tanaskovic has also worked with the U.S. Soccer Federation over the past few years. Most recently he was a part of the coaching staff with U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team. Tanaskovic continued to work with rising stars at some youth training centers in the Atlanta and Cincinnati areas and has done some scouting for various age groups. He was the ODP South Region Goalkeeping Director.
A graduate from North Georgia, he has earned his NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 and 2 diplomas and holds a U.S. Soccer Federation C license.
