Storylines

Down to the Wire: Saturday morning’s game against Sky Blue FC represents the final game for the Red Stars in the 2020 Fall Series as well as the last opportunity to earn points towards a Top 3 finish in the standings, which would guarantee a grant to Semicolon Bookstore as part of the Verizon Community Shield initiative. The Red Stars are one of three teams, including Sky Blue FC and North Carolina, who enter the weekend just outside of at least a third-place finish to secure a grant of $10,000 to be made towards each team’s respective small business or nonprofit of choice.

Rising Rookies: The Red Stars’ performance throughout the Fall Series has seen numerous contributions coming from the team’s 2020 Draft class. Camryn Biegalski (16th overall), Zoe Morse (19th overall), and Aerial Chavarin (35th overall) have all appeared in Chicago’s previous three matchups so far. Sarah Luebbert, who signed prior to this summer’s Challenge Cup, and Dani Rhodes, who signed a short-term deal prior to the Fall Series, also appeared in all of Chicago’s Fall Series games up to this point.

Sharing the Wealth: Out of all 12 goals that Chicago has scored this calendar year, including the Challenge Cup, 10 of them have come from a different player. Kealia Watt and Savannah McCaskill are the two multi-goal scorers for Chicago. Watt had two goals and an assist in her SeatGeek debut against Sky Blue FC earlier this month. McCaskill scored the Red Stars’ third goal against Sky Blue FC in the NWSL Challenge Cup semifinal and added another goal against Washington on September 26th.

Looking ahead: The Chicago Red Stars have officially announced their 2021 Season Ticket plans in anticipation of next season, as well as a new initiative geared towards thanking essential workers for their efforts throughout 2020. In addition to benefits such as free parking, merchandise discounts, and access to the 2021 kit presale, the Red Stars have pledged that for every new season ticket member for 2021, the team will donate an equivalent of a season ticket to an essential worker.
