Preview: Chicago vs. Washington

MATCH INFO: Chicago Red Stars vs. Washington Spirit; 2:50 p.m. CT. The game will be live on Lifetime as the NWSL’s Game of the Week. Tickets are available here.

SERIES HISTORY: The match between Chicago and Washington marks the first time the two teams will face off in 2017. The two teams played each other in the 2016 NWSL Playoffs, where Washington beat Chicago in overtime, 1-2. In 11 matches against the two clubs, all but two games have been decided by one goal or less. Overall, Spirit have taken seven wins from the Red Stars and just three losses.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON: The Spirit are coming off just their second win of 2017, beating the Houston Dash, 2-0. Washington is currently in ninth place with an overall record of 2-5-1. With an entire new team for the 2017 season, the Spirit are still trying to learn one another, but earned a huge addition with the signing of U.S. Women’s National Team member, Mallory Pugh. Havana Solaun has scored three goals to lead the Spirit attack, with Pugh, Kristie Mewis and Francisca Ordega, totaling five goals and three assists. However, the team has Canadian goalkeeper, Stephanie Labbe, who leads the league in saves (38) and has been pushed to come up in big situations.

RED STARS MILESTONES: Alyssa Mautz currently sits at 93 appearances for the Red Stars and will look to reach number 100 this season.

LEADING THE NWSL: Red Stars midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo is tied for the lead in assists (16) for all active players in NWSL. The previous two seasons, DiBernardo has finished second overall in the league in assists.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago will host Sky Blue FC on June 25, at 5 p.m. CT at Toyota Park. Tickets are available for purchase here.
