Press Named U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year Finalist

Striker had outstanding 2014 with Team USA, Red Stars, Sweden’s Tyresö

CHICAGO, Illinois – Red Stars and U.S. Women’s National Team striker Christen Press has been named as one of five candidates for the U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year Award, along with fellow attacking aces Carli Lloyd, Abby Wambach, Sydney Leroux and Lauren Holiday. The award winner will be announced this coming Saturday, December 6, during Fox Sport 1’s live coverage of the draw for next summer’s Women’s World Cup.

So far in 2014, Press has scored 7 goals and registered 5 assists in 12 starts and 20 total appearances with Team USA. She is the only player to have seen the field in all national team matches this year and was key in the qualifying tournament for the World Cup, netting twice and adding an assist to help her side win the trophy along with a spot on the game’s biggest stage.

The Los Angeles native tallied 23 times for Tyresö FF in 2013 and became the first ever American to win the Swedish top flight’s goal-scoring crown, in addition to leading her side to the 2013-14 Champions League final by finding the net 9 times during that competition. Upon arriving in Chicago, the 25-year-old scored 6 goals in only 12 appearances for her new club and quickly became a fan favorite.

The 2015 Chicago Red Stars campaign kicks off in the spring. Early-bird season tickets start at $125 and may be purchased by calling 773-697-8699 or by clicking here.
