Chicago, Ill. – Chicago Red Stars player Christen Press was just announced as a member of the PAC-12 All-Century Women’s Soccer Team, along with seven other former Stanford standouts.
Press (2007-10), a recent FIFA World Cup Champion and NWSL Best XI, completed her Stanford career as the 2010 NCAA leader in goals (26) and points (60). The awards continued to stack up for Press in her senior campaign, as she was the 2010 Hermann Trophy winner, 2010 Soccer America Player of the Year, 2010 PAC-10 Player of the Year and 2010 NSCAA first-team All-America. Throughout her career Press helped guide Stanford to an impressive 67-0-1 record in games in which she had a goal or an assist.
A member of the Red Stars since 2014 it did not take long for Press to make a name for herself in the NWSL, scoring 6 goals in 12 games. However, in 2015 Press became even more dominant for the Red Stars accounting for 10 goals and 2 assists through just 11 matches, good for an average of about one goal every 93 minutes. Her dominant play in 2015 did not go unrecognized, as she was named to the NWSL Best XI along with fellow Red Stars and USWNT teammate Julie Johnston. She was also nominated as Most Valuable Player in the 2015 Red Stars Team Awards.
