Press Helps U.S. WNT Secure Spot in 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup

CHICAGO – Last night, the United States Women’s National Team secured their place in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, defeating Mexico, 3-0, in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Women’s Championship at PPL Park in Philadelphia.

U.S. midfielder Carli Lloyd netted a pair of first-half goals for the team, while Chicago Red Stars forward Christen Press cemented the win with a second-half goal in the 56th minute of play. This marks her second goal of this year’s championship tournament.

The U.S. will next face Costa Rica in the title match of the 2014 CONCACAF Women’s Championship on Sunday at PPL Park. Should the U.S. win, this will mark their fifth CONCACAF championship. The game kicks off at 5 p.m. CT on FOX Sports 1.

Costa Rica defeated Trinidad & Tobago 3-0 in penalty kicks earlier Friday to advance to the final and qualify for its first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup. Mexico will meet Trinidad and Tobago in Sunday’s third-place game with the winner also advancing to the World Cup.
