CHICAGO – The Chicago Red have signed goalkeeper Megan Hinz to a National Team Replacement player contract ahead of Sunday’s match against Portland Thorns FC.
National Team Replacement Players do not count against the team’s roster limit and can be signed when a National Team Player is away on international duty. Currently, the Red Stars have five players on international duty as they prepare for the World Cup.
Hinz was a preseason invitee after a strong career at the University of Michigan. Hinz finished in the all-time top ten in four different categories in program history: fourth in goals-against average (0.97), sixth in wins (25), seventh in shutouts (11.4) and ninth in saves (125).
After finishing her college career, Hinz was named a volunteer assistant coach at DePaul, helping the Blue Demons reach the Big East Tournament.
Chicago returns to action on Sunday, June 2, on the road against Portland Thorns FC at 5 p.m. CT at Providence Park. The match will be broadcasted live on NBC Sports Chicago and available to stream on Yahoo! Sports.
