Keys to the Match: Sky Blue FC vs. Chicago Red Stars

Chicago’s brutal August stretch is just beginning.

With four games between a 15-day span, the club will be looking to the entire squad to get points in August. Earning three points against the Spirit, the Red Stars will look to gain momentum against a side that has been on a strong stretch as of late in Sky Blue.

Here are your keys to the match:

Rest is for the Wicked: After Saturday’s match in D.C. against the Spirit, Chicago headed straight to New Jersey to prepare for this game. While Chicago has had three full days in between their two matches, Sky Blue has been able to come in with rest as their last match dates back a week. It will take the entire 18-roster to gain three points from this match with legs from the Red Stars bound to be tired.

Secondary Options: Against her former team, Sam Kerr is no secret. The Australian forwards 12 goals this season leads the NWSL and has had success against Sky Blue over the last two seasons. With all eyes on Kerr, this opens up space for her teammates to get in behind and cause havoc in the final third. Yuki Nagasato has pushed five goals and four assists through in 2019, while Vanessa DiBernardo has been solid in the final half of the season earning two goals and two assists.

Shoot Your Shot: Kailen Sheridan is a bright spot in a dim season for Sky Blue FC. Currently, the goalkeeper has 49 saves which is second highest in the league. The Canadian goalkeeper has a 79% save rate and a 1.18 GAA while allowing just 13 goals. The Red Stars offensive powers will need to combine and break the backline to take their chances against Sheridan in order to find some shots in the back of the net.
