CHICAGO — Chicago plays its second game in four days when they meet the Orlando Pride on Wednesday, September 11. Kickoff from Exploria Stadium is scheduled for 6pm CT. on ESPNews, here are the keys to the match.
U Can’t Touch This: The International Connection struck Sunday when Yuki Nagasato provided the assist to Sam Kerr’s second goal of the game. Seldom is there a duo that is as in sync as Chicago’s, who have connected for 12 goals since 2018, the most of any duo in the league during that span. One of those goals came on Chicago’s last visit to Orlando back in June, when Nagasato got to the ball first off a goal kick and headed it to the path of Kerr, who put away her second goal of the game. It was one of Kerr’s league-leading 15 goals and Nagasato’s NWSL-best six assists.
You’re Still the One: Since coming to Chicago last season Kerr has faced Orlando four times. She has scored seven goals in those games, including three multi-goal performances. In her only visit to Exploria Stadium last year, Kerr’s two goals and one assist led the Red Stars to a 3-1 win. Not often does a player have a better stat line than that, but Kerr did so this past June in her second visit to Orlando as a Red Star. The forward found the back of the net three times in 55 minutes for a hat-trick in Chicago’s 3-2 win over the Pride.
This Is How We Do It: The Red Stars got an early lead against Houston on Sunday and never looked back. Their goal in the seventh-minute was Chicago’s ninth match this season they scored in the first 20 minutes of the game. The Red Stars have won all nine games this season where they have struck quickly, including the game in June against the Pride when a goal in the seventh minute helped Chicago earn three points.
