Chicago forward wins award for the fourth time this season
CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr has been voted National Women’s Soccer League Player of the Week for Week 14 of the 2019 NWSL season.
On Sunday night, Kerr scored the game-winning goal in Chicago’s 2-1 win over the North Carolina Courage. She received the ball just shy of the 18-yard box, nutmegs and pushes off the defender before slotting the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs for the final goal of the game. It was Kerr’s league-leading 10th goal of the season.
This is Kerr’s fourth Player of the Week Honor in 2019. She becomes one of two players in NWSL history to win the award on more than three occasions in a single season and is the first to do so since 2015. No player has been named Player of the Week more than Kerr, who takes home the award for the 11th time in her career.
Kerr and the Red Stars now set their sights on a matchup against Reign FC at Cheney Stadium. Kickoff is set for Sunday, July 28th at 3 pm CT.
