CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars forward Sam Kerr and her Australian teammates look to bounce back in group play against Brazil on Thursday, June 13. Kerr scored the Matildas’ only goal in their narrow 2-1 opening game defeat against Italy. Her quick penalty-kick rebound was the forward’s 24th goal in 27 appearances for her country and her first goal in a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Brazilians are coming off a 3-0 victory against Jamaica in which former Red Stars attacker Cristiane scored all three goals. At the age of 34 and 25 days, she became the oldest player to score a hat-trick in Women’s World Cup history. During her time in Chicago between 2009-2010, Cristiane scored 10 goals in 42 appearances.
The second game for the two nations kicks off at 11:00 am C.T. tomorrow in what will be a massive game and three points for either team to take.
