CHICAGO – National Soccer Hall of Famer Julie Foudy will host #SockTalk, an event unveiling her new book “Choose to Matter: Being Courageously and Fabulously YOU,” on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m. CT at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois. Foudy will be joined on the panel by former U.S. Women’s National Team defender Kate Markgraf and inspirational speaker, Amy Liss.
A two-time Olympic gold medalist and Women’s World Cup Champion, Foudy has served as an analyst for multiple soccer competitions, including the FIFA World Cup (2006, 2010), UEFA Euros 2008, Women’s World Cup (2007, 2011), Major League Soccer (MLS) matches and the 2008 Summer Olympics. Foudy will be a sideline analyst for the Chicago Red Stars match on Lifetime immediately following the #SockTalk.
Another two-time Olympic gold medalist and Women’s World Cup Champion, Markgraf earned 201 appearances for the U.S. WNT between 1998-2010. Her career was followed by a stint in the Women’s Professional Soccer league with the Chicago Red Stars. Markgraf has since worked with ESPN and Fox Soccer as a color commentator. Her work included the 2011 and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, the 2012 London Olympics and the UEFA Euro 2016.
Liss works for Easter Seals, a Chicago-based nonprofit working with children with disabilities, after starting therapy for cerebral palsy at the age of five. For many years, Liss has joined Foudy at her Sports Leadership Academy as an inspirational speaker. Recently, Liss won a contest to become one of 20 ring bearers for the 2016 World Series Champions, the Chicago Cubs.
#SockTalk tickets cost $45, which includes a copy of “Choose to Matter” and a pair of Chicago Red Stars socks, and can be purchased here. Proceeds of the event will benefit Girls in the Game.
