The Chicago Red Stars (0-2-2) return home today to complete a 3-games in 9-day stretch when they meet Portland Thorns FC (3-0-1) at 5pm at Village of Lisle – Benedictine University Sports Complex. The Red Stars suffered a 4-1 loss in Boston last Saturday, followed by a 1-1 tie at New Jersey Wednesday evening.
Portland is completing a 3-game road stretch that began with the April 27th meeting in Chicago, where they defeated the Red Stars 2-0. Their last match was a 2-1 victory over Washington Spirit last Saturday.
In the teams’ first meeting, the Red Stars were able to keep the scoreline level for the first 70 minutes, until the Thorns broke through on a Danielle Foxhoven goal, scored off a rebound. Shortly after, Alex Morgan took advantage of a steal off the Red Stars backline and sealed the 2-0 win for the Thorns.
The first-place Thorns lineup features a formidable front-pair in USWNT forward Alex Morgan and the NWSL Player of the Month, Canadian forward Christine Sinclair. The Red Stars, still seeking their first NWSL win, will have a heavy task in front of them today, having already played 2 matches in the last week.
