CHICAGO —- The Chicago Red Stars travel to BBVA Stadium to face the Houston Dash on Saturday, July 13 at 7:30 pm C.T. Here’s what you need to know about our upcoming opponent:
Opponent Form:
With 12 points, the Dash enter Saturday’s game seventh in the NWSL Standings. They suffered their first road loss of the season to the North Carolina Courage last weekend. Goals from Kyah Simon and Kristie Mewis were not enough to stop a ruthless Courage attack in a 5-2 defeat.
Round Two:
This will be the second time that the Red Stars and Dash will play each other this season. Two early goals from Sam Kerr carried Chicago to a 2-1 victory over the Dash back in May. It took Kerr only eight minutes to put the Red Stars ahead after she maneuvered around goalkeeper Jane Campell to slot the ball into the back of an unattended goal. Five minutes later, Kerr connected with Vanessa DiBernardo on a sublime give-and-go sequence that left the Aussie striker one-on-one with Campbell and Kerr did not miss her chance to double Chicago’s lead.
Who’s Heating Up?
Houston striker Kyah Simon has been lightning it up on offense the last two games with two goals and an assist. Against North Carolina, she was the focal point of the offense. She set up Mewis’ opener in the 24th minute, then later in the second half scored a goal of her own. It was the first time this season that she played the full 90 minutes.
Fun Fact To Know:
The Houston Dash have 14 players on the roster that were born outside of the United States, the most by any team in the NWSL.
