CHICAGO – The Chicago Red Stars are back at home on Saturday, August 3 to take on the Utah Royals at SeatGeek Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm CT. Chicago is coming off a weekend that earned them three points, four goals, and a shutout against Reign FC and will look to continue their good run of form against the Royals.

Opponent Form:

The Royals have lost three of their last five games, with the most recent loss coming this past weekend at home against the North Carolina Courage. Christen Press opened the scoring for Utah, but the Courage responded by scoring a goal late in the first half courtesy of Kristen Hamilton before Jessica McDonald’s second-half strike proved too much for Utah to overcome. The Royals are currently in seventh place in the National Women’s Soccer League with 11 games left on the season but enter Saturday’s game only four points away from a playoff spot. 

Round Two:

This will be the second time this season that the Red Stars and Royals will face each other. In the first matchup, the Royals won 1-0 with an 84th-minute goal from Amy Rodriguez. Chicago played the whole second half with 10 players due to Katie Johnson receiving a red card in the 42nd minute.

Royals midfielder Desiree Scott has played a full 90 minutes in six games and has been a vital asset for Utah in 2019. Despite losing their last game to the North Carolina Courage, Scott made a big impact for her team. She led the Royals with 55 passes and a team-high 87.3% passing accuracy. She was key in the Courage half of the field, completing 82.6% of her passes in the opposition’s half.
