CHICAGO- The Chicago Red Stars travel to Yurcak Field on Sunday, September 15 for a matchup against the Sky Blue FC with kickoff scheduled for 4:00 pm CT on NBC Sports Chicago. Here’s everything you need to know about our upcoming opponent.
With two wins in their last five games, Sky Blue are currently in eighth place in the NWSL with 16 points. Sky Blue’s most recent game was against the North Carolina Courage. Sky Blue fell behind in the first minute but were able to rally and equalize the game through a Carli Lloyd penalty kick. However, it was the Courage who got the last laugh as Crystal Dunn’s goal in the 57th minute sealed a 2-1 win for North Carolina.
This will be the final game Sky Blue FC and the Red Stars will meet this regular season. Chicago hosted the first matchup between these two teams in June. Sky Blue opened the scoring in the 23rd and added another goal in the 81st minute. The Red Stars didn’t quit as Danielle Colaprico scored in the 83rd minute. Chicago continued to try to get the equalizing goal, but the final whistle blew and the Red Stars lost 2-1. In July, the Red Stars traveled on the road to play Sky Blue FC. Rookie Paige Monaghan scored one of her two goals in the 71st minute, but Sam Kerr tied the game up at 1 in the 91st minute. Two minutes after Sam’s goal, Sky Blue responded by Monaghan scored her second goal of the game in the 93rd minute to give Sky Blue the 2-1 victory.
Lloyd continues to make a big impact for Sky Blue FC and is heating up as the season comes to a close. She has scored three goals in her last two games, bringing her season total to five goals and one assist this season. On the defensive side, Lloyd has a 77.8% tackle success rate and 12 clearances in 10 games played this season.
