CHICAGO — The Chicago Red Stars travel to BBVA Compass Stadium to take on NWSL table leaders Houston Dash on Sunday, May 19 at 5 pm C.T.
Here’s what you need to know about our upcoming opponent:
Who’s Hot
Since 2014, Kealia Ohai has been one of Houston’s best players. After tearing her ACL and returning in 2018, the Houston captain has stepped up when her team has needed a difference maker. Against Orlando, Ohai scored the lone goal of the game, a wonderful solo effort capped off by a shot sliced between the Pride defense and past goalkeeper Haley Kopmeyer
Opponent Form
With 10 points, Houston enters this weekend at the top of the NWSL Standings. Last Saturday the Dash took down the previously undefeated Utah Royals. Since their opening weekend draw against Reign FC, Houston has gone on to win three of their last four games, only falling to North Carolina.
Head-to-Head
This will be the first meeting between Chicago and Houston in over a year, with the last matchup taking place May 12 resulting in a 2-2 tie. Both teams would also share the points opening weekend of the 2018 NWSL season thanks to a stoppage-time equalizer for the Red Stars. Chicago would take the only win of the season series, a 3-1 victory at home last April.
Fun Stat to Know
Chicago has the NWSL season leaders in both goals and assists. Sam Kerr leads the league with four goals. Her international connection partner Yuki Nagasato tops the leaderboard in assists with three in five games, while also scoring an additional three goals.
