Four Red Stars Advance to 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship Semifinal 

CHICAGO – Four players for the Chicago Red Stars are heading to the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship Semifinals with the United States Women’s National Team (WNT). The U.S. will play on Sunday, October 14 at 6 p.m. CT at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. 

After three matches, USA shutout Mexico (6-0), Panama (5-0) and Trinidad & Tobago (7-0) to win Group A. 

Red Stars captain Julie Ertz made three appearances during the Group Stage. Ertz scored her 17th goal of her international career in the 47th minute against Mexico. 

Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher started two games in goal, earning her 17th and 18th shutout against Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago. Naeher has helped lead 10 of the U.S.’s 14 victories during the 2018 campaign. 

Both Morgan Brian and Casey Short played all 90 minutes during the victory over Panama. Short added to the action after assisting Carli Lloyd on her second goal of the game. 

The U.S. WNT will face the second-place team from Group B, which will be finalized after the conclusion of group play on Oct. 11. Currently, Canada tops the group with six points while Costa Rica and Jamaica follow with three points each, leaving Cuba in last with zero.
