CHICAGO – Midfielder Vanessa DiBernardo and defender Casey Short make their return to the active roster for the Chicago Red Stars after missing the first half of the 2018 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season due to injury.
DiBernardo hasn’t seen the field for the Red Stars during the regular season since last season in the playoffs, due to a pelvic stress fracture that landed her a spot on the 45-day disabled list. DiBernardo opted to stay state side during the NWSL offseason, forgoing her spot in Australia’s W-League with Perth Glory for a third season. During preseason, DiBernrado captained the first match of Portland Thorns’ Spring Invitational, leading her team to defeat the host team 1-0.
More recently, Short competed with the U.S. Women’s National team during the #SheBelieves Cup prior to the 2018 NWSL season. Short came on as a substitute in the first two matches, falling to injury in the latter on March 4 against France with a right ankle sprain. Short was placed on the 45-day disabled list shortly after, sitting out the first half of the season.
Chicago heads to Washington D.C. for Lifetime’s Game of the Week to take on the Spirit this Saturday, June 2. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on Lifetime.
