Three Red Stars Named to NWSL Team of the Month

NWSL Team of the Month presented by Cutter Insect Repellent

CHICAGO – Chicago Red Stars defender Casey Short, midfielder Yuki Nagasato and forward Sam Kerr were each voted on to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Team of the Month, presented by Cutter® Insect Repellent, voted by the NWSL Media Association for the month of April of the 2019 NWSL season.

Short scored her first goal of 2019, the game-winner, in a match against Reign FC on Sunday, April 28. One of the strongest attackers from the defensive position in the league, Short is just as strong on the defensive end. The defender pushed three interceptions, one block and shut down the top offensive players in the NWSL when she appeared in the matches against Portland and Reign FC.

Nagasato was named NWSL Player of the Week for her play during Week 3. With three goals in the month of April, the Japan international has managed five shots, four on goal. The midfielder is second overall in the NWSL in goals (3) and third in assists (2).

Australian forward sensation Kerr has managed to continue her 2018 Golden Boot season into 2019 with two goals in three matches. She’s managed 10 total shots, good enough for third-best in the league. On top of that, Kerr has won 100% of her tackles in the month of April.

The Chicago Red Stars and Portland Thorns FC both led the way with three players each voted to the Team of the Month, followed by the North Carolina Courage and Utah Royals FC with two each and Sky Blue FC with one.
