CHICAGO — The Chicago Red Stars announce the return of assistant coaches Craig Harrington and Gary Curneen for the 2019 National Women’s Soccer League season.
Both coaches joined the club as assistant coaches last year prior to the beginning of the 2018 season, helping the Red Stars reach nine wins on the year and make the postseason for the fourth consecutive season.
Prior to joining the Chicago Red Stars staff, Harrington worked as a coach at the LA Galaxy academy and was named the technical director of the Turks and Caicos National Football Association. He holds a U.S. Soccer Federation ‘A’ License.
“I am honored to have signed a new contract,” Harrington said. “This is a special club and I’m relishing getting started with the players and continuing to work under the leadership of Rory.”
Curneen served as Head Coach at his alma mater’s women’s soccer program, Wingate University, leading the team to a 95-48-8 record during his nine years at the program. Curneen left Wingate to become the head coach of Cal State Bakersfield in 2014. He was named the 2016 Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Coach of the year. He is the author of ‘The Modern Soccer Coach’ series, helping educate and provide tools for coaches to learn and grow. Curneen holds a UEFA ‘A’ License from the Irish FA and a Premier Diploma from the NSCAA.
“I’m really excited to return to a great team and organization,” Curneen said. “I love working alongside this group of players and staff and build off last year’s success.”
