W-League Recap: Round 12
CHICAGO — With only two more rounds remaining prior to the postseason, Chicago Red Stars players continued to battle for a spot in the W-League playoffs in Round 12 matches.
Danielle Colaprico was not with the Sydney FC team due to international duty, but her team gained a massive result against Yuki Nagasato and the Brisbane Roar in a 3-1 triumph. The former Japanese international played the full 90 minutes for Brisbane. Nagasato’s team will face Canberra United on Friday while Sydney FC will finish Round 13 action for the W-League in a game against Melbourne Victory.
Arin Wright and the Newcastle Jets looked to continue their momentum after a fantastic performance in Round 11 but were halted by a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Melbourne City. Wright played the full 90 minutes in the contest. The Jets will look to rebound against Adelaide United on Friday.
Sam Kerr and Perth Glory were on a bye this Round. They take on Western Sydney Wanderers on Thursday to open Round 13 in the W-League.
Perth, Brisbane, Newcastle and Sydney FC each have two games remaining in their regular season schedule as the battle to enter the postseason is coming to a close. The current W-League Ladder has Sydney FC in second place, Brisbane in third and Perth behind them in fourth place, with two points separating them. The Newcastle Jets continue to have an outside chance at postseason qualification, sitting in eighth place with 10 points. The top four teams in the table qualify for the playoffs.
