Christen Press Awarded Red Stars Golden Boot

CHICAGO  – The Chicago Red Stars announced today that forward Christen Press has earned the club’s 2014 Golden Boot award. She earned the award as the player with the most goals for the Red Stars in the 2014 regular season.

Press, 25, led the team in scoring with six goals in just 12 games for Chicago. She joined the squad late in 2014, after finishing the season with Tyresö FF in Sweden.

Press netted her first goal for the Red Stars in the 76th minute of Chicago’s July 4th match against Portland Thorns FC. Her second goal of the season would follow just 6 minutes later, helping her team come back from a 2-0 deficit, and earn the Red Stars a critical point on the road.

A U.S. Women’s National Team forward, Press played an instrumental role in Chicago’s offense, and was named to the NWSL Second XI for her on-field performance during the 2014 regular season.

In 2013, Press was awarded the Golden Boot in the Swedish Damallsvenskan, as the top scorer in the league with 23 goals. She became the first American in the history of the league to be awarded this honor.

Press was recently named to the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the squad’s upcoming matches against Mexico on September 13 and 18 in Salt Lake City, Utah and Rochester N.Y., respectively.
