CHICAGO – For the first time in 2018, the Red Stars will take on the Reign, as they hit the road for Seattle on Saturday, May 19. Kickoff is set for 9:00 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on NWSL app and the go90 app.

The Red Stars are coming off their fifth draw of the season after battling to a frustrating 2-2 scoreline against Houston. With both goals being equalizers for Chicago, Sam Kerr notched her second goal of the season in back-to-back games, while Sofia Huerta notched her third goal in 2018.

Despite finding more opportunities in the attacking third, Chicago couldn’t capitalize on their chances on target, leaving the final matchup against the Dash a draw.

Seattle has found a bit of early luck, completing a three-game undefeated streak. Most recently, the Reign defeated Sky Blue FC 4-1 at home.

Getting the ball rolling, Jodie Taylor notched the first goal in the first five minutes, followed by a brace from Megan Rapinoe. Sky Blue’s Savannah McCaskill narrowed the scoreline in the 62^nd minute for Sky Blue, but midfielder Allie Long finalized the game with a late Seattle goal.

After two-consecutive fifth place finishes, the Reign turned their team around for the 2018 season, starting with their head coach. Two-time NWSL Coach of the Year, Laura Harvey was replaced by former FC Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski, eventually finding room at Utah Royals FC where Andonovski would have coached.

One of the biggest names making her way to Seattle was two-time NWSL Champion Allie Long from Portland Thorns FC. Long has already made a mark by notching two goals this season. The Reign have also picked up defenders Steph Catley (Orlando) and Megan Oyster (Boston) and England international forward Jodie Taylor, who made her return to the NWSL after two seasons in Europe, formerly playing for Portland in 2015.

U.S. WNT midfielder Megan Rapinoe is second in the league with four goals, earning March Player of the Month, while Taylor has added three. Catley and Nahomi Kawasumi are tied with two assists each.

Last season, Chicago finished the year with a 1-2-0 record against Seattle, with all three matches being separated by one goal. Christen Press tallied the only goal in the 1-0 victory on June 4, while Alyssa Mautz and Jen Hoy notched one goal each in the final 2-1 losses on June 28 and August 16, respectively. One Seattle’s side, Rapinoe tallied a brace, as Katie Johnson and Kawasumi got a goal each.

The Red Stars are back in Chicago for Lifetime’s Game of the Week on Saturday, May 26, against the Orlando Pride. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcast live on Lifetime.
