Chicago Travels to Orlando After FIFA Break

GAME NOTES

CHICAGO – The Red Stars look to continue their winning streak against the Pride as they head down to Orlando for their third matchup on Saturday, August 5, as the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) resumes from a FIFA break, which saw the U.S. Women’s National Team host the Tournament of Nations. Kickoff for the match is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, and available live on go90 and NWSLsoccer.com.

The Red Stars found their way to the top of the standings for this first time this season after action in week 13. Captain Christen Press tallied her seventh and eighth goals of the season in a 2-1 win over Orlando at Toyota Park. The first goal came in the 29th minute after Sofia Huerta found Press over the top with a perfectly timed ball. Press would work her magic and find the back of the net to put the Red Stars up by one over the Pride. In the second half, Chicago would break behind the Orlando defense once again, as Jen Hoy found Press cutting through two Pride defenders to earn a brace.

Orlando defender Alanna Kennedy tallied her third goal of the season in second half stoppage time that led to the Red Stars not earning their sixth shutout of 2017.

After four matches against the newest NWSL team, Chicago has earned a 4-0-0 record and has only conceded one goal to the Pride. Press makes up four of the five Chicago goals, while defender Taylor Comeau tallied against the Pride last season on the road.

While only finishing each match against Orlando with a one-goal difference, the Chicago backline has some of the best defensive moments against the Pride. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher has the second best save percentage (89%) when playing the Pride, as the back four has made the most clearances (82) against Orlando than against any other team.

With the amount of talent each team possesses, both sides have managed to get onto the league stats board. Orlando’s Marta and Chicago’s Press share third place in goals (8), while the Pride’s Camila and Marta tie Red Stars Huerta in assists (4).

It’s been Press who has continued her streak in the NWSL of earning most shots (62) and shots on goal (36) and has led those categories a majority of the season.

Chicago will look to stay atop the standings and continue its winning streak over Orlando when they face each other this Saturday. Catch Chicago’s next match at home on Aug. 12, when the home side takes on Portland Thorns FC at 7 p.m. CT. Tickets for Aug. 12 are available here.
