CHICAGO – The Red Stars will travel to North Carolina to take on the Courage in another mid-week match on Wednesday, July 4. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast live on the NWSL app and go90 app.
In his 50th victory, head coach Rory Dames and the Red Stars are coming off a 2-0 shutout against the Washington Spirit to extend a four-game undefeated streak.
It was defender Casey Short who gave Chicago the lead in the first half after Danielle Colaprico’s corner kick found the head of Short to slot the ball between a Washington defender and the far post. Forward Yuki Nagasato upped the lead as her extraordinary diving header stunned goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe, giving Chicago the 2-0 victory.
North Carolina extended its winning ways after a trio of goals in three minutes put the Courage above the Orlando Pride. Debinha notched the first, while Merritt Mathias and Jessica McDonald scored minutes later for the first half lead that stretched into the end of the match.
Chicago and North Carolina has only faced each other once this season, battling to a 1-1 draw. It seemed like Chicago had the edge after taking a 1-0 lead into the second half thanks to Sam Kerr’s goal before halftime. It wasn’t until the final eight minutes that North Carolina’s McCall Zerboni notched the equalizer that ended the draw.
